irregular rainfall mainly during the winter season. The average rainfall in the
region is around 500 mm, but most of the cropped lands may receive rainfall
in the range of 300–900 mm, varying from year to year, with rainfall distribution
also varying considerably within years. Climate change is predicted to cause
a reduction in rainfall and an increase in temperature, which will exacerbate
the existing water shortages in the region.
