The 1988 Report aims to strike a balance between two approaches and is structured into two main parts.

Part One highlights the significant developments in the Center's research throughout the year, focusing on advancements that could have practical implications for increasing food supplies. The year also included the Center's Second External Program and Management Reviews, as well as the preparation of its Strategic and Medium-Term Plans. Additionally, Part One addresses the major challenges facing agriculture in ICARDA's region, the issues these challenges present to the Center's scientists, and provides a brief overview of the new directions anticipated in its Strategic and Medium-Term Plans.

Part Two summarizes ICARDA's work, which is detailed further in separate Program Reports. This section is primarily intended for the scientific community, aiming to familiarize readers with the scope and direction of the work being conducted by the Center.
