ICARDA at the 6th WASWAC World Conference

ICARDA is pleased to be part of the 6th WASWAC World Conference in Rabat, Morocco, in partnership with the World Association of Soil and Water Conservation, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests (MAPMDREF), and the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA), from September 15 to 17, 2025, under the theme “Resilient Landscapes: Innovations and Traditions in Climate-Adaptive Soil and Water Conservation (RISE-SWC). ”
This event is further supported by private institutions such as OCP/Nutricrops and Atmar, national institutions like IAV, ENA Meknes, and UM6P/Al Moutmir; and international organizations such as the African Plant Nutrition Institute, IMWI, UNESCO/IRTCES, the Italian Soil Partnership, and FAO.
The conference will bring together scientists, experts, and policymakers to explore innovative strategies and practical solutions to climate change and to strengthen global efforts to combat its impact on soil and water systems.
ICARDA’s delegation will contribute to major sessions:
- Dr. Augusto Becerra, ICARDA’s Deputy Director General will deliver the opening remarks and chair a CGIAR/ICARDA Special session, featuring a keynote by Dr. Krishna Devkota on “Innovations of Soil Health and Water Management for Climate-resilient Dryland Agriculture in CWANA Region: ICARDA Experiences"
- Dr. Vinay Nangia will participate in a strategic panel discussion and chair a session on “Integrated Water and Land Resource Management: Challenges and Opportunities for Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience (S-LWL)”
- Dr. Rachid Moussadek will moderate the strategic panel discussion, chair the FAO Side event: Launch of International Network on Soil Erosion (INSER), and deliver a keynote address “ Could conservation agriculture improve soil health and productivity in Drylands? Mythes and realities” in the session on Integrated Water and Land Resource Management: Challenges and Opportunities for Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience (S-LWL).
- Dr. Mina Devkota will chair a parallel session on “Monitoring and early warning mechanisms in soil and water management.”
