Its a two year project funded by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) aiming at sustainable development of lowland pastures in Tunisia, Jordan, and Yemen was initiated in September 2014. Its overall goal is to improve the livelihood of the agro-pastoral communities through sustainable use of integrated conservation agriculture technologies and alley cropping systems that enhance the productivity of lowlands in the arid and semi-arid rangelands.

Objectives

To develop and disseminate a sustainable framework for managing lowlands of the arid and semi-arid rangeland areas of Jordan, Tunisia, and Yemen that enhance the productivity (provide additional feed and food), while conserving the environment and biodiversity

Impact pathways

This project is enhancing sustainability and fodder production of low land pastures in Arab countries (Yemen, Jordan and Tunisia) through designing a sustainable framework for degraded sites which will ensure conservation of biodiversity and environment. Project will identify and test alternative technical packages for selective lowland areas to improve management of landscape depressions in pastoral ecosystems, this will contribute to CGIAR strategic goals i.e. increased resilience of the poor to climate change & other shocks (1.1), enhanced national capital & protected especially from climate change (3.1) and more sustainably managed agro-ecosystems (3.3). Last bu not least, Trainings/workshops for NARS collaborators will enhance their institutional capacity(D 1.1.)
