Experience capitalization is a systematic, interactive and participatory process through which an experience is analysed and documented, leading to the creation of knowledge (for example good practices or lessons learned), which can be shared and used to generate change.

This course introduces the methodology and process of experience capitalization. It gives you guidance and tools to help you plan and implement your own experience capitalization process, and ensure its efficiency and effectiveness.

While the units of the course follow a logical sequence from 1 to 5, depending on what your needs are, you can start with the unit of your interest.


Duration: Up to 10 hours of learning, depending on learning needs.

 
Audience

The course is meant to support the work of all those professionals involved in reflecting upon, learning from and sharing the lessons of their work, whether as part of a broad knowledge management effort, or as a stand-alone activity.

These professionals work in a wide range of organizations, including international organizations, donor agencies, multi-laterals, NGOs, research institutes, and national or local governments.

The main categories include:

  • Team leaders / managers
  • Project / program technical staff
  • Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) officers
  • Communication and information professionals
  • Knowledge Management (KM) and Knowledge Sharing (KS) professionals

Content

This course consists of 13 lessons, ranging from approximately 30 to 60 minutes duration, grouped into five units:

  • Unit 1 - Introduction
  • Unit 2 - Facilitate
  • Unit 3 - Prepare
  • Unit 4 - Implement
  • Unit 5 - Generate change
