Paper on forecasting of irrigation demand published in Water Resources Research Journal
The research team around ICARDA senior scientist Dr Biju George has published a paper in the well reputed Water Resources Research Journal. In the article “Ensemble forecasting of short-term system scale irrigation demands using real-time flow data and numerical weather predictions,” the research team presents a reliable irrigation demand forecast model, which is supportive to operational decisions on water use. In applying the proposed forecasting, agricultural producers can better plan short-term demand fluctuations and water transfers for irrigation systems and thus increase water use efficiency. The study used data from fully automated irrigation systems in Australia, but the approach can be modified to suit different conditions.
