ICARDA presents on Community-Based Livestock Breeding at Tropentag 2016 Conference
ICARDA, in partnership with the Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), is hosting a workshop on community-based breeding at the Tropentag 2016 conference, in Vienna, Austria, on September 19, 2016. The research is implemented as part of the CGIAR Research Program on Livestock and Fish.
The workshop will examine alternative ‘Community-Based Breeding Programs’ as pathways to the genetic improvement of livestock in tropics and dry areas. The approach typically involves participation of local communities/farmers in defining breeding goals, designing breeding strategies, and implementing cross-breeding programs.
