The “Carlotta Award 2022” second edition is promoted by ENEA, the Academy of Sciences known as the XL, and by the European Research Infrastructure METROFOOD-RI and sponsored by ICARDA, the Wheat Initiative International Program, and EUCARPIA European Association for Research.

The "Carlotta Award 2022" for young researchers is only open to women under the age of 40 at the time of submission. An abstract outlining an original work, as well as a thorough curriculum vitae and a list of publications, must be included in the application.
An international jury of specialists will choose four winners (1st and 2nd class for each subject). In the event that two (or more) candidates receive the same score, the youngest will be awarded the prize as an encouragement to further her scientific and professional development.
This Second Edition will be held in Bologna, Italy on the 26th and 28th of October 2022, as part of the most significant International Congress on cereals and related food products, the International Conference "From Seed to Pasta IV."
There are two scientific areas on which the works are focused, related to the main themes of the FSTP-4 Congress, 1-5 (a) and 6-8 (b) respectively:
- wheat genetics, genomics, and breeding.
- sustainable wheat production for food security, food quality, and safety, durum wheat-pasta value chain.

Named after Carlotta Parisani Strampelli, wife of the great Italian geneticist Nazareno Strampelli, this award is dedicated to giving research the proper recognition and, more importantly, to send a positive signal to young women researchers engaged in wheat and other cereals' genetic improvement.
