National Associate Scientist - Plant Protection

Dr. Neha Tiwari is a National Associate Scientist specializing in Plant Protection and Cactus at ICARDA-FLRP. She commenced her journey in the pathology program in 2017 and has since been actively engaged in various initiatives. Notably, she has played a pivotal role in establishing wilt sick plots for lentil and chickpea, primarily focusing on identifying germplasms resistant to root and foliar diseases prevalent in India.

Beyond her work in plant pathology, Dr. Tiwari is a passionate advocate for promoting spineless cactus in India. Her efforts encompass various applications, ranging from its utilization in food, fodder, fertilizer, and fashion, to fuel. Particularly noteworthy is her significant contribution to exploring biogas production from cactus, which has emerged as a noteworthy project in India.

Dr. Tiwari holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from CCS University, Meerut, India. Her expertise spans the entire spectrum of molecular biology, encompassing diverse techniques and methodologies. This includes, but is not limited to, the generation of gene constructs and infectious clones of plant viruses, genotypic screening utilizing infectious clones of plant viruses, and detection of plant pathogens using molecular techniques. Her proficiency extends to advanced methodologies such as Electrophoretic Mobility Shift Assay (EMSA) and nicking assay for host-pathogen interaction studies. Additionally, Dr. Tiwari possesses expertise in Phage Display for protein-protein interaction studies, microarray techniques, and bioinformatics for allele mining. She has contributed to numerous publications in reputed journals, authored book chapters and submitted several sequences in NCBI, further solidifying her impact in the field.
